Dr. Bruno Takahashi recently returned from Singapore following a visit to Nanyang Technological University at the invitation of his colleague Dr. Edson Tandoc Jr., an associate professor at the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information at NTU.
While in Singapore, Takahashi gave a guest lecture on his research in Puerto Rico, which focuses on misinformation and news coverage of natural hazards. Takahashi also met with undergraduate classes and doctoral students at the university and discussed potential research collaborations between himself and Tandoc. This networking and collaboration, Takahashi says, is critical to expanding his own perspectives.
“It’s important to have those networks because the ways in which we understand how humans work in the West, it’s not the same as people in other regions of the world, like in the Global South, that might operate in different ways,” he said.
Takahashi also attended a symposium organized by Tandoc which centered around fake news, misinformation and disinformation. The symposium, funded by a grant from the Singaporean government, was attended by officials from the Ministry of Education and the national libraries.
