Americans’ trust in the media remains at a record low, a new Gallup poll reports, with only 31% of those surveyed expressing a “great deal” or “fair amount” of confidence in the press.
That is a lower confidence rate for the press than for Congress, federal courts and respondents’ own state and local government.
The high point in trust in the media came in the 1970s at 68% to 72% of those polled, according to Gallup.

The new documentary “Patrol” is about Indigenous Rama and Afro-descendent Kriol communities of Nicaragua fighting illegal cattle ranching in the Indio Maíz Biological Reserve not far from the Costa Rican border.
The film, supported in part by a grant from the Knight Center for Environmental Journalism, will be aired on the MSU campus.

A Michigan State University student recently won a climate change reporting trip to Iceland in a national journalism contest.
Cassidy Hough won first place in the “Best Use of Science or Data” category of the competition with a report on perennial grains for the Knight Center for Environmental Journalism’s Food Fix podcast.
Judges recently announced the winners of the annual national Storyfest competition for exemplary work covering stories on the environment, sustainability and climate change.
