Knight Center alum launches two major productions

Knight Center alum Andrew Norman went full-time today as the executive director of Hear Nebraska, a nonprofit online music news community that he planned as his masters project before graduating from MSU in 2010.
Andrew and his wife, Angie, launched Hear Nebraska that same year. It is a nonprofit organization that cultivates Nebraska’s vibrant, fertile music and arts community. It provides resources and a voice for musicians and members of Nebraska’s creative class and the people and businesses that support them.

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan – May 1 was World Press Freedom Day, an event marked – but not celebrated – by release of Freedom House’s annual country-by-country assessment of the state of press rights across the globe.
Clearly 2013 wasn’t a stellar year. As Karin Karlekar, the Freedom House project director, said in releasing the 2014 report, “We see declines in media freedom on a global level, driven by governments’ efforts to control the message and punish the messenger.”

Knight Center staffer presents outdoor recreation study in Germany

Christine Carmichael, a student staff member at the Knight Center, is giving an oral presentation at the International Symposium for Society and Resource Management in Hanover, Germany, June 9-13.

The presentation, Towards a strategic understanding of potential partner expectations in the collaborative development of an urban outdoor recreation center,will outline findings from a research project conducted between January and June 2013 for Oakland County Parks and Recreation in Michigan.

In collaboration with Dan McCole in the Department of Community Sustainability, Christine conducted 20 indepth interviews with lead staff at a range of organizations aiming to increase participation in outdoor recreation among urban populations in southeast Michigan.
