Research Director Bruno Takahashi recently discussed environmental journalism and communication with a delegation of Chinese business representatives.
The presentation was part of a week-long visit to East Lansing organized by the Visiting International Professional Program at Michigan State University October 12 to 16, 2015. The delegation of 17 individuals (including presidents, directors and managers) from the Shaanxi province represented companies that deal with environmental issues:
- Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd.
- Shaanxi Water Affair Group Co., Ltd.
- Shaanxi Forestry Group Co., Ltd.
- Shaanxi Environment Protection Industry Group Co., Ltd.
Takahashi covered media relations in the context of environmental pollution and corporate environmental communication. He presented two case studies. One focused on media coverage of Beijing’s air pollution, a study co-conducted with Knight Center doctoral student Ran Duan. Another focused on the influence of media coverage of climate change on Peruvian legislators.
The week-long program included presentations by other MSU faculty on topics as diverse as enterprise finance strategy modeling, leadership theories, the role of accounting in the 2007-2008 financial crisis in the U.S. and legal issues in management.
